Making Connections & Building Hope: Gun Violence Prevention in Ohio

Join us for the second in a series of webinars featuring work for gun violence prevention at the state level. In May, our webinar will focus on the state of Ohio. Speakers will include State Senator Willis Blackshear, Jr., Dion Green of the FUDGE Foundation, Jen Morin-Williamson of the Sisters of the Precious Blood, and Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan, Jr. from the Ohio Council of Churches. Together, they will reflect on ways people can be involved in gun violence prevention and community support as well as where they find hope for the future.

 

This event is co-sponsored by Nuns Against Gun Violence, Franciscan Action Network, and the Franciscan Peace Center.

 

Speakers:

Senator Willis Blackshear, Jr.

Senator Willis E Blackshear Jr. is currently serving in his 1st term as State Senator for Senate District 6. Prior to becoming a State Senator, he served two terms as the State Representative for Districts 39 and then 38. Through his work in the General Assembly, Senator Blackshear hopes to help the business community in his district, bolster the workforce, and prioritize families while advocating for the mental health needs of Ohioans.

 

Dion Green

Mr. Dion Green is the Founder/CEO of Flourishing Under Distress Given Encouragement (FUDGE), a 501c3 nonprofit that helps survivors through traumatic experiences with resources and support.  Green is a prominent advocate against gun violence, actively engaging with communities across the nation that have been profoundly affected by this pressing issue.

 

Jen Morin-Williamson

Jen Morin-Williamson is the Peace, Justice, and Ecology Coordinator for the Sisters of the Precious Blood in Dayton, Ohio. She also serves on the Steering Committee for Nuns Against Gun Violence.

 

Reverend Dr. Jack Sullivan, Jr.

The Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan, Jr. is the Executive Director of the Ohio Council of Churches, which brings together 17 denominations as a Jesus Christ movement for unity, justice, and peace. He is ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and is a council member of several organizations including Trinity Lutheran Seminary and Catholic Mobilizing Network.
